Meepo Hurricane 1500 Review: The All-Terrain Board You Won’t Outgrow

Introduction

Recently, we reviewed the Meepo Monster 2500—a beast of an electric skateboard with insane power, massive range, and suspension. But as beautiful as the Monster is, it’s not for everyone. It’s heavy, garage-bound, and definitely not something you’re pulling out for a daily ride.

Today, we’re reviewing its brother: the Meepo Hurricane 1500. And while it looks less intimidating than the Monster, we think this is the board that suits almost everyone looking for a comfortable, powerful, all-terrain e-skating experience.

The Hurricane 1500 comes in two versions: 4WD belt or 2WD gear setup, both sharing the same price and specs. The only difference is the drivetrain and total output power. We tested the belt 4WD version, and we think it’s the best choice you can make.

Here’s our honest review.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Opening the box, the first thing that hits you is the design.

The Hurricane 1500 screams classy and premium. The silver carbon fiber finish looks genuinely beautiful. With four motors and CNC aluminum motor guards protecting each one, you immediately know this board means business.

Deck: Premium Carbon Fiber Construction

The Hurricane 1500 features a 3K carbon fiber deck with a silver finish.

Deck Specifications:

  • Length: 39.2 inches
  • Width: 10.4 inches
  • Material: 3K carbon fiber
  • Flex: 100% stiff (no flex)
  • Weight Rating: Up to 660 lbs (300kg)
  • Concave: Good, with the familiar Hurricane shape

Design & Feel:

Standing on it is comfortable. Your feet feel secured on the wide platform with good concave. The stiffness is 100% intentional—since this is an all-terrain board with pneumatic wheels, vibration absorption comes from the wheels, not the deck.

The 300kg weight rating is good news for heavier riders who are often overlooked in the e-skate market.

ESC & Remote

JECNN ESC with Smart Power-On

For the brains, Meepo has switched their higher-end boards to the JECNN ESC—and we love it.

The 4WD variant runs a dual 36-amp configuration: one ESC for each pair of motors. The tuning behaves like a heavily customized Hobbywing, sharing the same good traits:

  • Precise acceleration
  • Precise braking
  • Smart power-on (press the remote and the board is ready to go)

That last feature is much appreciated for a board this capable.

Standard Remote (J6S):

The included remote is Meepo’s proven J6S design. The UI has been used for years, and it works fine—telemetry, gear, battery, everything you need. Time-tested and comfortable.

New Remote Option:

A week into reviewing, Meepo sent us a new remote with a completely different design and more advanced UI, showing every detail of the board. The ergonomics are a matter of personal preference—the J6S is comfortable and familiar, but the new remote’s UI is genuinely more advanced. It’ll be interesting to see if Meepo bundles this with the Hurricane 1500 going forward.

Battery & Range

Inside the deck sits a massive 14S6P battery pack using TP-50SG cells, delivering 1,512 watt-hours.

Range Performance:

  • Marketed range: 60 miles (100km)
  • Real-world expectation (aggressive riding): ~40 miles
  • Charge time: Only 2 hours with included 14A fast charger

Reality Check:

Yes, marketed ranges are very optimistic. That 60-mile figure is probably based on cruising at 15 mph on flat terrain. Nobody riding a 4WD Hurricane will be cruising at that speed—that’s not what this board is for.

Based on our testing, 40 miles of real-world range is still massive. That’s enough for genuine full-day exploration without worrying about running out of juice. And with the 2-hour charge time, even if you do run out, you’re back to riding quickly.

Motors & Power: The 4WD Difference

The Hurricane 1500 is powered by four DXW-5260 motors producing 1,800 watts each, for a total of 7,200 watts.

The 4WD vs 2WD Question:

On paper, the 2WD gear variant produces 3,800 watts per motor (7,600W total) from just two motors. So why go 4WD with slightly less total wattage?

Simple: because of what 4WD actually delivers.

4WD Grip is the Game-Changer:

In the highest Speed Plus mode, the Hurricane 1500 4WD can launch you quick. But raw acceleration isn’t the main story. The real magic of 4WD is grip.

With power delivered to all four wheels, you can worry less about skidding. Even on loose sand, gravel, and wet roads, you’ll maintain traction. The 4WD setup makes you confident to carve hard and blast through terrain that a 2WD board would spin out on.

The Principle: Any 4WD setup will feel more capable off-road and on steep inclines than a more powerful 2WD setup. This board is a great example of that principle in action.

Braking: Precision & Control

Braking on this board is precise and strong.

Performance:

  • Full brake on tarmac: wheels grip and bring you to a controlled stop
  • Full brake on sand: thanks to 4WD grip, you maintain traction without drifting

That precision makes the Hurricane comfortable to stop anywhere, on any surface. When you’re this confident about your brakes, you’re a lot more comfortable pushing the acceleration.

Trucks: Stability for 4WD Power

The Hurricane 1500 runs 10.5-inch CNC Traditional Kingpin trucks.

Design Philosophy:

Traditional kingpin trucks provide great stability and confidence at speed. Carving is enjoyable, though less agile than double kingpin setups.

Why TKP for 4WD?

Here’s the critical insight: 4WD benefits from stable trucks, not agile ones. On a normal 2WD board, you can loosen the front trucks because there are no motors up there. On a 4WD board, the front trucks have powerful motors, and motor rotations under load can introduce movements that translate to wobble.

So you need to keep them tight. The stock setup on the Hurricane 1500 delivers:

  • Stability at speed
  • Agility for normal turns
  • Confidence when riding fast on rough terrain
  • Sharp L-turns and U-turns take more effort, but that’s the trade-off for grip at all four corners

We genuinely love the stock setup. It’s the right call for a 4WD board.

Wheels: The Sweet Spot

The Hurricane 1500 rolls on 175mm pneumatic wheels.

Why This Size Matters:

The deck is stiff, so all comfort has to come from somewhere—and the 175mm pneumatics deliver perfectly. They:

  • Soak up road vibration beautifully
  • Handle cracks, gravel, and grass without complaint
  • Provide excellent grip across terrain types

The Design Philosophy:

Honestly, the combination feels so good that we genuinely question whether a suspension system is even necessary at this board size. Suspensions add weight and moving parts that can break. This setup gives you plenty of comfort without any of those trade-offs.

If you asked us what the sweet spot of e-skate design should look like moving forward, this is it.

Riding Experience: Addictively Capable

Putting everything together—this board rips.

The 4WD Experience:

4WD is genuinely addictive. It gives you grip, it gives you power, and it gives you the kind of confidence that makes you want to keep riding. The control tuning is smooth and beginner-friendly enough that less experienced riders can enjoy it without feeling overwhelmed.

Power Delivery:

  • Low & Eco modes: Completely manageable for beginners
  • Speed mode: Ready when you want more
  • Speed Plus mode: Where we spent most of our time

High-Speed Stability:

The board handles high speeds really well. Between the stable CNC TKP trucks, the stiff carbon deck, and the grippy pneumatics, you feel planted and confident even when pushing the top end.

Terrain Versatility:

Being carbon fiber means the deck is stiff. This isn’t a specialist for heavy off-roading over sharp rocks. Its natural place is:

  • Tarmac
  • Poorly paved roads
  • Grass
  • Sand
  • Occasional trails (where 4WD grip helps massively)

If serious mountain trails are your thing, the Monster 2500’s suspension will serve you better. But for everything else? The Hurricane 1500 excels.

Cons:
✗ 4WD means four belts to maintain (vs two)
✗ $1,699 is premium pricing
✗ Not ideal for extreme mountain trails
✗ Stiff deck (less forgiving on sharp rocks)
✗ Less agile carving than DKP trucks
✗ Not a beginner entry-level board

Verdict: The Board You Actually Keep

The Meepo Hurricane 1500 is a capable all-terrain board that sits in Meepo’s premium range without going into Monster 2500 territory.

Weird as it sounds—this board is for almost everyone.

Everyone looking for a comfortable e-skate experience. Everyone who just wants to grab a board and ride safely everywhere. Everyone tired of compromising on capability or comfort.

Yes, being 4WD means you have four belts to maintain instead of two. But the benefits—the grip, the confidence, the versatility across every terrain—are too much to give up.

At $1,699, this isn’t cheap, especially for beginners getting into the e-skate scene. But this is a board you’ll buy and stick with, not needing an upgrade. The value is genuinely strong for what you’re getting.

And honestly? This is the board we want to keep after reviewing it. That’s not something we say often.

If you’ve ever felt that a board wasn’t quite right—too compromised, too niche, too soon to replace—the Hurricane 1500 solves that problem. It’s the board that grows with you instead of against you.

For the rider who refuses to compromise, this is it.
